Raquel wanted to provide a space where people could learn and
connect with their yoga practice without judgement or expectations... and just be themselves.
Inna Satyah Yoga & Well-Being was founded by Dr. Raquel Wright-Mair (E-RYT 200 & RYT 500). Raquel focuses on accessibility, equity, inclusion, and social justice in yoga. Raquel’s approach to teaching yoga on the mat honors that the ‘power within’ will be different for each individual, she makes intentional choices and incorporates the various limbs of yoga to hold space for each student to connect to themselves and their higher purpose. Raquel is intentional with the sequences she designs and ensures that her classes are accessible and affirming to people at all stages in their yoga journey/practice.
Raquel connected deeply with the Sanskrit word "Satya," meaning truth, during her first yoga teacher training and felt it had a Jamaican Patois resonance. Inspired by its meaning and "Jamaican vibes," she blended it with the concept of internal truth, creating "Inna Satyah" as a reflection of her journey.
In addition to teaching different students at various levels and stages in life, Raquel also teaches yoga to athletes—to develop breathwork and mindfulness practices, reduce injury, improve recovery, increase flexibility, and decrease stress. No matter the student or particular need, Raquel strives to disrupt the everyday expectation of doing/being more, and helps those in her yoga classes to cultivate an approach to their practice that explores self-discovery, reclaims their inner strength, and expands their own capacities.
Raquel is an Associate Professor of Higher Education, and her research focuses on advancing social justice with a specific emphasis on creating environments that are equitable and inclusive. Her passion for teaching transcends the classroom and her love for well-being and yoga has taken her on a path that has allowed her to focus on integrating mind, body, and heart—allowing her to effectively lead, support, and empower others to rediscover themselves, be present, pause, and lead a purposeful life through movement, meditation, and breathwork.
The spiritual practice of yoga has been an anchor in Raquel's life and has taught her valuable lessons that she enjoys sharing with others. She prioritizes facilitating a yoga practice that empowers students, welcomes them, allows them to find inner peace, connection, and grounding on and off the mat. Raquel is certified as a Trauma Informed Yoga instructor and specializes in Vinyasa (beginners—advanced), Yin, & Yoga Nidra. Raquel also teaches PYROpilates and is currently pursuing her C-IAYT Yoga therapy certification.
